Stricter digital sex crime and drunk driving laws implemented from Tuesday

Starting from today, tougher punishments will be handed out to those guilty of digital sex crimes. <br />People who harm others when driving under the influence of alcohol will also face stiffer sentences.<br />Hong Yoo reports. <br />Those found guilty of committing digital sex crimes or harming others through drunk driving will face stronger punishments starting from Tuesday.<br /><br />In the past, spreading self-recorded sexual videos and photos of others often went unpunished.<br />But under the new law, those found guilty of posting videos or photos of a sexual nature on the web without the other person's consent,... will face up to five years in prison and a fine of up to 26-thousand U.S. dollars. <br />That's up from the previous maximum prison sentence of three years and roughly nine-thousand dollars in fines. And those guilty of making a profit from illegal uploads will face up to seven years in prison.<br /><br />Meanwhile, the newly revised drink-driving law means that if drink-driving results in the death of another person, the offender could receive between three years and life in prison.<br />Those who injure others through drink-driving will receive between one and fifteen years behind bars, and a fine of between 9-thousand and 26-thousand U.S. dollars.<br /><br />Previously, those convicted of killing someone through drunk-driving faced a minimum of one year in prison.<br />Hong Yoo, Arirang News. <br />
