33-year-old Colin O'Brady of the United States has become the first person to cross Antarctica alone. Business Insider reports the adventurer reached the Ross Ice Shelf on Wednesday after 54 days and 932 miles. Everyone who previously attempted to trek across the southern continent either gave up or died. O'Brady, who is a professional triathlete, carried all of his gear and food on a 400-pound sled as he skied. He had to eat 7,000 calories per day during the trek. O'Brady wrote on Instagram following his finish, "I'm looking forward to cheering others on as we continue to push the limits of human potential in the polar regions and beyond." <br />
