Equestrianism has become more popular in China after the government expressed strong support for horse riding in 2014. As of 2018, the number of horse clubs in the country had grown to around 1,800, double the figure from 2016. China is second only to the United States in terms of the number of riders. Despite the high cost, more and more Chinese are willing to invest in the elite sport. Some parents even send their children to learn horse riding to stay competitive among their peers.
