China Lands a Vehicle
on the Far Side of the Moon China has called the
historic probe Chang'e-4,
in reference to the moon
goddess from Chinese mythology. Zhu Menghua, Macau University of Science and Technology, via 'The New York Times' Chang'e-4's success marks
the first time a spacecraft has
landed on the far side of the Moon. On board the probe and its rover are cameras and radar that are able to penetrate the ground. The probe landed in a
110 mile-wide crater
called the Von Kármán. The basin
surrounding the
crater is thought
to be mineral rich. The landing could give China
an upper hand once it's possible
to mine the moon for its minerals.
