US National Debt Reaches New High Under Trump At the end of 2018, the U.S. national debt was $21.974 trillion, It has increased by more than <br />$2 trillion dollars since <br />Donald Trump took office. After the 2008 financial crisis, the national debt has been rising. When Trump first took office, <br />the debt began to decrease. But it started to increase again <br />after a Republican tax cut passed <br />at the end of 2017.
