Scientists Can Now<br />'Hack' Photosynthesis Photosynthesis is the process by which plants convert sunlight and carbon dioxide into the food and oxygen that sustains life. Now scientists have found a way to make the 3.5-billion-year-old biochemical process even <br />more efficient. They have discovered a way to 'hack' into the plants to make them grow bigger and faster. Experiments conducted on tobacco plants allowed the plants to grow 40% bigger. If this genetic modification was applied to food crops, farmers could easily sustain our growing population. Amanda Cavanagh, University of Illinois, via NBC News Scientists are currently experimenting on potatoes, soybeans and cowpeas.
