A two-year-old girl was rescued from the clutches of a man who held her hostage and was shot dead after a five-hour standoff in a four-storey flat at Telipok Ria apartments in Tuaran, Sabah on Sunday.<br />The girl, who was not identified, suffered a cut to her neck and was sent to a hospital.<br />Sabah police commissioner Datuk Omar Mammah said police believe the unidentified suspect could be mentally unstable or on drugs.<br /><br />Meanwhile, the girl's grandmother Sharmala Mohd Akhir said the suspect was not known to the family and has denied that revenge was the motive behind the incident.<br /><br />The girl's aunt Nor Fatihah Nasir, said when the incident happened the child's mother was at home and only realised what had happened after being notified by a neighbour that her daughter had been abducted.<br />Read more at https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2019/01/13/sabah-child-hostage-suspect-shot-dead-girl-rescued/
