Handgun Gets Past Security
at US Airport The passenger is said to have told authorities that they forgot
the firearm was with them. According to TSA, the breach happened at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. The passenger traveled from Atlanta to Tokyo with the gun in their luggage on January 3, two weeks after the
partial government shutdown
went into effect. Due to not being paid, hundreds of TSA workers haven't shown up to work since the shutdown began. The agency says the security lapse in Atlanta was not due to the shutdown, claiming staff that day was
at normal capacity. Over 50,000 TSA workers are currently not receiving paychecks while the shutdown continues.
