Opioids Overdose Surpasses <br />Vehicle Crashes as a <br />US Leading Cause of Death The finding was <br />published in a new report <br />on preventable deaths from <br />the National Safety Council. It finds that Americans <br />have a 1 in 96 chance of <br />dying from an opioid overdose. Americans have a <br />1 in 103 chance of dying <br />in a motor vehicle accident. Fentanyl is the <br />drug most likely <br />to cause the overdose. The council has <br />recommendations for <br />curbing the opioid epidemic. They include more <br />pain management training <br />for those who prescribe opioids, making the<br />overdose reversal <br />drug naloxone <br />more available and making addiction <br />treatment more accessible. Overall the study found that the odds <br />of dying from a preventable injury <br />have increased for Americans <br />over the past 15 years.
