It was designed back in the late seventies as a light-use military vehicle; used and abused mostly in the deserts of the Middle East.<br /><br />It gradually gained a cult following as a road car, though, and over time it became a popular left-field alternative to the Land Rover Defender and Jeep Wrangler.
