Delta CEO Says
the Government Shutdown
Will Cost $25 Million This Month Delta CEO Ed Bastian
made the comments
on Tuesday. He blamed the revenue loss
on less travel by government
contractors and employees. Delta will also have to delay
the introduction of new
Airbus A220 jets and routes. The company is also delaying
hiring for new employees
that require federal clearances. The current partial
government shutdown
is the longest in U.S. history. It's the result of a standoff
between President Donald
Trump and Democrats over
a wall at the U.S. southern border. 800,000 federal employees
are currently either furloughed
or working without pay. TSA screeners are among
the federal employees
required to work without pay. TSA's absentee rate has climbed since
the shutdown, straining the security
checkpoints of Delta's hub airport in Atlanta.
