Claims of voter bribery in Malindi, Kericho mini-polls

Police are investigating various allegations of voter bribery involving Members of Parliament during the Malindi by-election that is currently underway.<br /><br />In one of the incidents, police were forced to shoot in the air to disperse a group of youths who had attacked Lamu East MP Shariff Athman who was accused of buying votes.<br /><br />Mwea MP Peter Gitau was also rescued from a mob mainly comprising ODM supporters who had accused him of bribing voters before he lodged a complaint of assault at the Kilifi Police Station.<br /><br />Also ejected from a polling station in Malindi was Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu who faced similar accusations, as well as forcing himself into a voting centre.<br /><br />And in Kericho, similar claims have emerged with the leading contenders, Jubilee and KANU trading accusations against each other.<br /><br />Outgoing Senator Charles Keter says their competitors were allegedly engaging in voter bribery since Sunday night.<br /><br />He has warned that any county vehicle from Bomet County will not be spared if found in Kericho County.<br /><br />He made the allegations when he accompanied Jubilee candidate Aaron Cheruiyot to cast his vote.<br /><br />Though a civil servant, he says he’s still a politician and will still support Jubilee Government at any cost.<br /><br />Cheruiyot expressed optimism that he will emerge victorious.<br /><br />Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and Stephen Sang were also present among other leaders
