Venezuela's Maduro facing most direct challenge to his leadership

2019-01-25 53 Dailymotion

Sparks are flying in Venezuela as President Nicolas Maduro is facing the most direct challenge to his nearly six years in power.
The United States and a number of other countries have recognized (Wan Gwa-doh) Juan Guaido, currently the head of the country’s National Assembly, as Venezuela’s legitimate president.
After this challenge to Maduro's leadership both in and outside Venezuela, we thought we'd get the opinions of Fernando (How-RAY-GEE) Jauregui, a freelance journalist in Caracas.

Let’s cut straight to the chase, with everything that’s been happening over the past few days -- troops shooting live rounds at protestors and people taking to the streets in the hundreds of thousands -- do you think Maduro’s days are numbered?

The Trump administration’s almost immediate backing of the opposition leader means he’s clearly more palatable to Washington than Maduro. What’s driving (wan) Juan (gway-doh’s) Guaido’s popularity in Venezuela?

How do you see this see this ending? We can assume Maduro is not going to go down without a fight....

Ok, well it was a pleasure speaking to you again.
You are living through an arduous, but potentially momentous time in Venezuela’s modern history. Stay safe and I'm sure we'll be speaking with you again soon. Fernando (How-RAY-GEE) Jauregui in Caracas. Thank you.
