This was the patriotic moment a British man in Thailand shunned regional cuisine at a barbecue from a local eatery.

The ex-patriate from South Wales was offered a local dish of grilled pork and morning glory with family friends at the restaurant in Chumphon, southern Thailand, last Saturday (January 19).

But while the Thais tucked into their favourite food, he was in no mood for that and retreated to the kitchen to cook '‘something more substantial'’.

Footage shows him sitting over a fryer bubbling with oil while he makes his own ''good old British chips'' with a side serving of chicken nuggets.

He’s heard in the video explaining to another man how they taste better with ''lemon juice and vinegar''.

''Gotta have mushy peas and lemon juice. French fries are no good because they're so thin, there's no body to them,'' he adds.

''I'm not interested in any of this health rubbish. You can't beat British chips. They're more substantial.''
