PM Lee calls for stronger measures on foot-and-mouth disease ahead of Lunar New Year

The South Korean government is warning people in Korea to stay away from farms affected by a recent outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease.<br />During his weekly meeting with ministers on Thursday, Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon said the mass exodus of people for the Lunar New Year holiday will begin on Friday, and the further spread of FMD would be a serious problem.<br />The government has locked down the farms in question and culled the affected cattle since the outbreak.<br />The PM called on the agriculture ministry and other agencies to commit to stronger preventative measures for the next 24 hours to protect travelers.<br />The first outbreak was confirmed on Monday at a milk cow farm in Anseong, some 75 kilometers south of Seoul. <br />
