A deadly arctic cold snap that's sweeping through the U.S. Midwest has now claimed the lives of at least eight people.<br />Temperatures are still lingering between minus 20 and minus 30 degrees Celsius in most parts, with the wind chill making it feel like minus 50.<br />Most services and operations have grinded to a halt in the region, including transport, schools, power lines and water pipes. <br />Several states have also declared states of emergency.<br />The deep freeze is expected to last for another day of two, before starting to warm up slightly. <br />
