The reincarnation of the hit show <br />about West Hollywood lesbians has <br />been in development for over a year. Showtime recently announced <br />that the long-awaited sequel <br />has gotten the green light. Popular characters Shane, Alice and Bette, played by Katherine Moennig, Leisha Hailey and Jennfier Beals, will be returning. The familiar characters will serve to <br />bridge the older series to the new one. Marja-Lewis Ryan will <br />executive produce along with <br />Ilene Chaiken, Moennig, Hailey and Beals. Gary Levine, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks, via Deadline 'The L Word' is widely considered <br />to be the first drama to focus on <br />the lives of lesbian characters.
