General Motors to Lay Off 4,000 Workers The company says the cuts are apart of a restructuring plan it revealed <br />last November. At the time, GM said 15,000 jobs and <br />five North American plants would <br />eventually be eliminated. General Motors, via statement A spokesman for GM says laid off workers who had salaries have been given severance packages. They have also been provided with services to get <br />jobs elsewhere. Of the 4,000 new layoffs, GM added that half of the former workers took buyouts.
