A hundred years ago on this date, Korean students in Japan issued a declaration of Korea's independence from the Japanese Empire.<br />That declaration was a catalyst... for the historic March 1st Independence Movement that occured a few weeks later.<br />Today, for the February 8th declaration, commemorations will be held at the Korean YMCA buildings in Tokyo and Seoul... starting at 11 AM, local time.<br />The event in Tokyo will be attended by around 250 people, including the South Korean minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, Pi Woo-jin .<br />The ceremony in Seoul will be attended by around 400 people. <br />
