Bintulu district was hit by floods early Tuesday with waters rising as high as one metre and inundating several locations in northern Sarawak.<br /><br />Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department had to carry out an emergency evacuation at the Batu 5 squatter colony outside the town at pre-dawn hours.<br /><br />Some 23 people had to be rescued from flooded areas as water surged to about a metre high.
