More and more Koreans these days are opting to stay single and choosing not to tie the knot.
Kim Hyo-sun tells us why.
More single South Korean women are reluctant to tie the knot compared to their single male counterparts.
A survey by the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs on two thousand single men and women found that only 45-point-three percent of the women surveyed said they wanted to get married,... while nearly 60 percent of the male respondents expressed the same view.
One out of ten female respondents said they never had... nor will ever plan to get married.
The number of single South Koreans who had a positive view about marriage decreased for both male and women respondents compared to the survey conducted three years ago.
The new survey also found respondents were more likely not to favor marriage as they got older.
A researcher from the institute said the surge in female economic participation, high youth unemployment and rising housing prices were some of the reasons driving the trend.
The researcher added the increasingly negative perception of marriage could continue until social and living conditions improve in South Korea.
Kim Hyo-sun, Arirang News.
