At least 154 people have died and more than 200 others have been hospitalized after consuming tainted alcohol in India.<br />The deaths in Assam state came less than two weeks after the moonshine, known locally as "country-made liquor" killed a hundred people in the north of the country.<br />Thirty four people have been arrested for their suspected involvement in the supply of the illegal alcohol.<br />Police suspect the victims contracted methyl alcohol poisoning from methanol that was added to the mixture. <br />The incident is the latest in India's long battle to control fake or illegal alcohol, which sells for about a third of the price of legally brewed liquor. <br />
