The Supreme Court has issued notices to the CBI and BSNL on a PIL alleging misuse of public office by former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran. The petition alleges that Maran had set up a BSNL exchange in Chennai for his personal use and routed the lines to Sun TV offices.
Incidentally, Sun TV is owned by Dayanidhi's brother Kalanithi.
The PIL also seeks an investigation against Maran. In 2007, the CBI's Chennai branch had drafted a note saying that the lines originally meant for his residential address were used by the Sun TV Network, causing huge losses to the central government.
