Taking a tough stand against repeat offenders of over-speeding and drunken driving, the Delhi Traffic Police is now seeking cancellation of their licences. It had recently written to the Delhi Government Transport Department regarding the same.

To begin with, the Traffic Police has written for cancellation of 2,010 licences, which includes both commercial and private vehicles.

According to a police officer, of these 2,010 cases, 302 were repeat offenders of drunken driving and the rest of over-speeding. Drivers who have been prosecuted for either drunken driving or over-speeding more than two times are being considered as repeat offenders.

“We are hopeful that this exercise will help us deal with the menace of drunken driving as most of the people will not want their licences to be cancelled,” said a senior police officer.

So far the Traffic Police had been prosecuting drunk drivers but the drive did not seem to help much. If a driver is caught driving a vehicle with alcohol in his blood exceeding 30 mg per 100 ml, the violator is punished for the first offence with imprisonment for a term which may extend up to six months,or with fine which may extend to Rs.2,000. For a second or subsequent offence, if committed within three years of commission of the previous similar offence, the offender is punished with an imprisonment for a term which can extend to two years, or with fine which may extend up Rs.3,000.

For More information on this news visit: http://www.itvnewsindia.com/
For More information on this news, visit: http://www.itvnewsindia.com/hindi
Connect with us on Social platform at: http://www.facebook.com/InformationTV
Subscribe to our You Tube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/itvnewsindia
