Tsunami sirens wake Chilean residents as 7.3 quake strikes region

A border town between Chile and Peru has issued tsunami sirens to warn local residents after a 7.3 magnitude earthquake hit southern Peru this morning (March 1).<br /><br />Sirens can be heard in Arica in northern Chile signalling the possibility of a tsunami due to the quake.<br /><br />Many of residents near the epicentre have been advised to evacuate their homes to the streets after reverberations have sparked fears of structural damage to buildings.
