Government clears EC proposal to raise poll expenses limit to Rs.70 lakh

The government on Friday cleared a proposal of the Election Commission to raise expenditure limits for Lok Sabha elections to a maximum of Rs.70 lakh, allowing candidates to spend more on their poll campaigns. <br /><br />EC's proposal to raise expenditure limits for assembly elections to a maximum of Rs.28 lakh has also been accepted. <br /><br /><br />According to sources, the Union Cabinet which met in New Delhi considered the EC's proposal in this regard sent on 17 February and cleared the same. <br /><br />The EC had written to the law ministry proposing a raise in expenditure limits for Lok Sabha elections to a maximum of Rs.70 lakh.
