Political parties are up in arms against the fare hike and are demanding a rollback of the decision.

In Allahabad, Samajwadi Party workers stopped a train in protest of the 14.2 per cent hike in rail fares. The SP workers got on to the tracks, raising flags and slogans and halted a train. Police personnel had to rush to the spot to break off the protests.

CPI (M) leader Brinda Karat questioned Modi's 'achhe din' promise, saying, "We highly condemn this.
