A building collapses in Chennai

A 35-year-old woman had a miraculous escape when a portion of a 150-year-old building in Sullivan Street at Santhome in Chennai collapsed on Monday morning.<br /><br />The two-storey building belonging to the CSI St Thomas English Church collapsed when Jansi Navarajan, a homemaker, came out of the building to sweep the courtyard. Her son, Naveen Raj, had gone to school. Her husband, Navarajan, is a sepoy in the Army and is working in Hyderabad.<br /><br />Church authorities told TOI that they had issued notices to the tenants six months ago to vacate the building as they wanted to demolish it.<br /><br />An aged couple, who were living on the first floor, had moved to their daughter's house in the area recently.
