South Korea is holding a celebration to mark the 59th anniversary of a 1960 pro-democracy demonstration.<br />On March 15th, in 1960,... protestors took to the streets,... against the authoritarian regime of then President Rhee Syng-nam,... after a rigged re-election of the president.<br />Vote counts were manipulated to extend Rhee's term.<br />Rhee had ruled the country since he became the country's first president in 1948.<br />A nationwide protest later took place in April forcing him to step down.<br />Some 15-hundred people are expected to attend Friday's event,... including Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon and leaders of political parties. <br />
