South Korea held a celebration to mark the 59th anniversary of a 1960 pro-democracy demonstration.<br />On March 15th, 1960,... protestors took to the streets,... against the authoritarian regime of then President Rhee Syng-man,... after a rigged re-election of the president.<br />Vote counts were manipulated to extend his term.... and he had ruled the country since he became the first president in 1948.<br />A nationwide protest later took place in April forcing him to step down.<br />Friday's event was attended by Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon as well as political parties' leaders. <br />
