Facebook Says Mosque Shooting Video Was Originally Viewed Thousands
of Times Before it was originally taken down,
the footage was watched over
4,000 times on Facebook. The gunman in the Christchurch shooting posted a live-stream of the massacre to the platform. A Facebook representative says that only 200 people watched the stream during its original broadcast. The site has since had to block the video from being re-uploaded
over one million times. That still hasn't stopped critics from saying Facebook reacted too slowly. New Zealand's government says it is working with Facebook to make sure uploads are permanently blocked. The country has even begun to
criminally charge people within
its borders who upload the video. The disturbing content has also made its way to other websites, who
say they will remove it. Liveleak, via statement
