Amazon to Launch Thousands of Satellites Into Orbit to Provide Global Internet Access Amazon plans to launch 3,236 satellites<br />in order to give internet access <br />around the world. Their focus is on “unserved and<br />underserved communities around the world.” The United Nations estimates that<br />as many as four billion people are<br />underserved in terms of internet access. Kuiper Systems LLC made several<br />sets of filings with the International <br />Telecommunication Union (ITU) last month. The ITU is responsible for the<br />global coordination of satellite orbits. Amazon was quick to confirm that<br />Kuiper Systems was one of their projects. Over 90% of the world’s population<br />lives within that area of the earth.
