임시정부 100주년 기념식 '국민참여형' 축제로 여의도공원서 개최<br /><br /> And in light of today's centennial of Korea's Provisional Government... a commemorative event is being held in central Seoul to mark the occasion.<br />So let's connect to our Kim Ji-yeon who's currently at one of the main events in Yeouido.<br />Ji-yeon, the event you're at is taking place at a significant venue and at a significant time,.... tell us more.<br /> Sure.<br />I'm standing at the Yeouido Park Culture Square... where the festivities have just started.<br />Located near the rows of beautiful cherry blossoms... this venue is near to where... an advance group of a military arm of Korea's provisional government landed at exactly 7:19 PM local time back in 1945... the same year the country gained independence from Japan's 35-year-long colonial rule.<br /> The event... which is taking place at the same time and place today... is a dedication to the efforts made by the provisional government to fight for liberation from Japan.<br /> I believe various performances and a reenactment of the independence activists' efforts are scheduled... can you tell us more about what's planned for tonight?<br /> Sure, the event starts with a performance involving a "torch of independence"... ignited last month at a <br /> ceremony marking the 100th anniversary of the March 1 Independence Movement,... which then traveled across the nation for 42 days.<br /> Ten-thousand people are expected to participate in the event... including government officials, former independence fighters and their families... as well as the general public.<br />That's ten times more than the amount that participated in last year's event.<br />Commemorative events are also being held in Shanghai and Los Angeles.<br />That's it for me. <br />I'm Kim Ji-yeon reporting live from Seoul's Yeouido Park Culture Square. <br />
