Michael Avenatti Charged With Stealing Millions From Clients Avenatti has been indicted<br />on 36 counts of fraud, perjury,<br />failure to pay taxes, embezzlement<br />and other financial crimes. He is accused of stealing millions<br />from five different clients, and funneling the funds through<br />various shell companies and bank accounts. His crimes were discovered in 2018<br />when one of his clients lost their disability<br />payments as a result of Avenatti’s deceit. He also failed to file personal income<br />tax returns, as well as tax returns for<br />his law firms, between 2015 and 2017. Avenatti was arrested in March for<br />allegedly attempting to extort <br />$20 million from Nike. He is currently free on a $300,000<br />bond, and has taken to Twitter to<br />proclaim his innocence.
