Expert's take on S. Korea-U.S. summit

2019-04-12 6 Dailymotion

Let's get an expert's take on the South Korea-U.S. summit and the ongoing negotiations with North Korea over its denuclearization.
I'm joined by James Kim, Research Fellow at the Asan Institute for Policy Studies, for his insights.
1. This summit was seen as a critical opportunity for President Moon to reset North Korea-U.S. diplomacy, do you think Thursday's meeting moved the needle at all?
2. A new phrase seems to have popped up recently -- taking a "top-down approach" to the peace process, do you think that's the right way to approach the issue?
3. Do you think President Moon might have been pushing President Trump to override the inflexibility of his advisors -- hawks like John Bolton,... and to a lesser degree Mike Pompeo,... and consider a multilateral summit or sanctions relief?
4. What's next for this process -- maybe a fourth Moon-Kim summit, followed by a third Trump-Kim summit and possibly even a three-way summit with China at some point?
Thanks for coming in. Look forward to speaking to you again soon. That was James Kim, Research Fellow at the Asan Institute for Policy Studies.
