People applaud Paris' firefighters in their trucks for the work they did to stop the fire that ravaged Notre-Dame Cathedral on Monday evening (April 15). <br /><br />The flames that began in the early evening spread quickly through the centuries-old cathedral roof and engulfed the spire, which collapsed, quickly followed by the entire roof.<br /><br />While it was burning in the evening, firefighters fought to prevent the fall of one of the main bell towers. One firefighter was seriously injured - the only reported victim.<br /><br />A Paris fire official announced that they had saved the two towers and the main structure of Notre Dame. <br /><br />In the video, we can see people clapping as fire trucks pass through the streets of the capital.
