Armenians in northern Greece staged a protest near a Turkish consulate on Wednesday evening (April 24) but were blocked by riot police.<br /><br />Video shows protesters kicking out and shouting at riot police in highly charged scenes outside the consulate in Greece's second city, Thessaloniki.<br /><br />Earlier, members of the Armenian community marched peacefully through the city waving the national flag.<br /><br />Armenians worldwide commemorated yesterday the 104th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, the Ottoman government's systematic extermination of around 1.5 million ethnic Armenians.<br /><br />Turkey contends that the deaths starting in 1915 were due to civil war and unrest.
