Lyft Program Aims to<br />Combat 'Food Deserts' In their latest push into healthcare,<br />Lyft has expanded their grocery access<br />program to 13 cities across the United States. The ridesharing company first launched<br />the program in 2018 in Washington D.C.<br />for a six month pilot period. The grocery access program offers<br />shared rides for $2.50 to a local<br />grocery store in "food deserts." “Food deserts” are urban areas<br />where purchasing affordable<br />or quality food is difficult. In a statement, Lyft said they were<br />committed to “stronger, healthier,<br />and more equitable” communities. Lyft, via statement Lyft hopes to curb the effects of “food<br />deserts” by providing better options<br />and improving the population health.
