Two baby elephants were rescued on Monday after they fell into a deep pit in Sri Lanka.<br /><br />Residents of Kalagama in Galkiriyagama worked alongside wildlife officials for four hours to dig around the pit so that the animals could climb to safety on their own. <br /><br />One of the calves then headed directly for the waiting herd but another walked into a nearby village.<br /><br />However, rescuers managed to redirect the youngster and reunite it with its mother.
