The UN has warned that up to one million plant and animal species are on the verge of extinction,... while humans are accelerating the speed of their extinction.<br />The UN's first comprehensive report on biodiversity issued by the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services pointed out the species loss is accelerating to a rate tens or hundreds of times faster than in the past. <br />It also explained that over half a million species on land have insufficient habitat for long-term survival and are likely to go extinct within decades,... unless their habitats are restored.<br />Such a report was devised by over 460 specialists worldwide based on three years of research. <br />
