TEHRAN, IRAN — US National Security Advisor John Bolton says the US has sent an aircraft carrier to the Middle East as a warning to Iran, according to the BBC.<br /><br />The US is deploying the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group and a bomber task force to the region, Reuters reports.<br /><br />The carrier strike group consists of the Abraham Lincoln, an aircraft carrier, the USS leyte Gulf, a Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser, US Navy Carrier Air Wing Seven, and destroyer vessels from Destroyer Squadron Two, NBC News reports.<br /><br />According to NPR, the task force would also consist of land-based bombers.<br /><br />Citing an unidentified US official, CNN reports that threats were made against US maritime and ground based forces in the Middle East.<br /><br />Reuters cites Bolton as saying that any attack on US interests or US allies will be met with quote "unrelenting force."
