According to the biography, <br />'African Samurai: The True Story of Yasuke, <br />a Legendary Black Warrior in Feudal Japan,' Yasuke came to Japan in 1579, serving as an <br />indentured bodyguard and servant to Portuguese <br />Jesuit missionary Alessandro Valignano.
