Debris plunged to the ground in a shopping mall when part of an escalator collapsed due to heavy rain.<br /><br />Hundreds of people were inside the upmarket building in Mandaluyong City, the Philippines on May 8 afternoon when the tropical downpour began.<br /><br />Chunks of concrete from the firth floor escalator at The Podium mall in the Ortigas Center dropped to the ground floor and landed on a coffee booth.<br /><br />Fortunately, nobody was injured and the staff rushed to secure the area.<br /><br />Mall bosses said in a statement that strong rain caused the damage. <br /><br />"The strong rains caused damages to an isolated portion of the ceiling in The Podium,’’ they said.<br /><br />''To ensure the safety of our customers, the area has been temporarily cordoned off. Repair and maintenance works will commence once the weather improves.''
