South Korea is celebrating its 38th National Teacher's Day today.<br />The day, which marks the birthday of King Sejong, the creator of the Korean language Hangul,… has been observed annually as a day to express gratitude and respect for teachers since 1965.<br />The education ministry will hold a special event at the Government convention center in Sejong City at 11:00 AM, Korea time.<br />Education minister Yoo Eun-hae will award nearly three-thousand teachers for their outstanding support and guidance.<br />To mark the occasion, some 700 elementary, middle and high schools out of nearly 12,000 schools nationwide have closed for the day.<br />Other schools have seen students handing red carnations to their teachers as a sign of appreciation. <br />
