Taiwan Legalizes <br />Same-Sex Marriage Passage of the legislation <br />means that Taiwan is the first <br />Asian country to legalize <br />gay marriage. The bill goes into <br />effect on May 24. Taiwan has a large gay <br />community and hosts Asia's <br />biggest gay pride festival. Despite this, <br />the issue of gay marriage <br />has divided the country.
