日 정부, 강제징용 배상 판결 관련 한국에 중재위 개최 요청<br /><br />Japan has requested for the forced labor ruling dispute with South Korea to be settled through arbitration by a third party<br />Seoul's foreign ministry confirmed, that Tokyo made such a request earlier in the day.<br />This comes as the nation has not yet given a clear answer to Japan's request for talks on the matter. <br />In their 1965 agreement, which normalized diplomatic ties, the two sides agreed to hold talks or an arbitration if there is an issue regarding the agreement.<br />However, the arbitration by a third party cannot take place without agreement by both sides. <br />Last year, South Korea's Supreme Court ordered Japanese companies to compensate the Koreans forced into hard labor before and during World War Two.<br />But with the firms refusing to do so, the victims, earlier in the month, requested that the court force the sale of the companys' local assets. <br />
