South Korean director Bong Joon ho received an eight minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday night for his latest film "Parasite." <br />"I don't like to follow the convention or codes for genre films, I try to convey messages about society through these broken codes." <br />The audience at the 23 hundred seat Grand Theatre Lumiere burst into applause after the 2 hour long film. <br />"Parasite" portrays a poor family getting involved with a wealthy family residing in a gaudy mansion. <br />This is Bong's fifth time at Cannes and his second attempt to win the Palme d'Or in the main competition section, following "Okja" in 2017. <br />
