In Burkina Faso, land degradation has become a serious threat to sustainable development. Denuded lands represent more than 24% of the total agricultural area.<br /><br />This phenomenon contributes to reducing the useful agricultural land and the level of production, thus plunging many producers into poverty to the point of pushing some towards emigration.<br /><br />Launched in August 2013 for a six-year period, DryDev, the Drylands Development Programme, worked with communities in six sub-watersheds in Burkina Faso to treat gullies, to make them become non-erosive.<br />
