2040년까지 재생에너지 비중 30-35% 확대<br /><br />During today's cabinet meeting, the government finalized plans to raise the share of the country’s power output generated from renewable sources.<br />The goal is to boost the level to around 30 to 35 percent by the year 2040, which would mean a more than four-fold increase from current levels.<br />The government will reduce the use of coal, a key cause of fine dust.<br />It will also phase out nuclear power by not extending the lifespan of old nuclear plants. <br />Currently, coal accounts for about 40 percent of the country’s total electricity needs, while renewable power makes up around eight percent.<br />A more detailed plan on renewable power usage will be announced later this year. <br />
