Parkland School Sheriff's <br />Deputy Faces Charges <br />Over Inaction Former Deputy Scot Peterson <br />faces 11 charges including child <br />neglect, perjury and culpable negligence. Peterson was the school <br />resource officer on campus <br />during the Marjory Stoneman Douglas <br />High School massacre in February, 2018. Security footage of Peterson <br />emerged that revealed he failed <br />to enter the building, opting <br />instead to remain outside. 17 people were <br />killed in the massacre. Dubbed "the Coward of Broward County," <br />Peterson retired after the shooting <br />and has been receiving a pension. He was fired on Tuesday <br />at a disciplinary hearing <br />conducted by the new Sheriff. He was booked into <br />Broward County Jail with <br />a bail to be set at $102,000.
